Max Holland manages the "Tour de Canterbury Rotary" and provided this update of the recent adventures of the rotary bike group.
This week, the ride started from the Watergardens station and went down Taylors Creek to Brimbank Park for coffee at the Lumbar & Co Cafe. The Park is on the Maribyrnong River, which we followed downstream to an excellent lunch at the Anglers Tavern by the River. We then rode to the nearby Ascot Vale station for the trip home.
The Dodd family farmed the land of Brimbank Park from 1860 until 1974, when the State Government purchased it for parkland. The Park’s riverbanks and rock formations are of particular geological interest. The Park has numerous trails, playgrounds, ovals, and picnic areas, and it preserves the original modest farm cottage. The playgrounds include some sculptures by the same artist featured in the ride last week at the Lehmann’s Farm Park in Epping. The following link has 55 photos of the Park.
