A note from the Co-Presidents
We have been busy since the last meeting! Our projects are all moving along, always reliant on members volunteering their time, brains and brawn! Unlike some people who wish to divide, people and organisations in Boroondara actively work together for good. Examples have been the donation, collection and delivery of fresh food to groups who can pass it on to those in need; member donations to the Food Pantry which Wayne delivered on Tuesday to Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre and the Ceremony on Saturday celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Kew Cenotaph where our Jess (Jess Wilson MP for Kew) spoke beautifully about the need to remember those who served protecting our country. In another example of working together, thank you to those who have indicated their willingness to help prepare the ground and lay pavers (volunteers are needed from RC Canterbury and RC Kew as it is a joint project). We may have a Saturday working bee which will be for both Kew and Canterbury members for those who can’t help on weekdays, but we will need to get the pavers from the depot during working hours. Also put 11am 21 September in your calendars so you are at Victoria Park for the Peace Poles unveiling ceremony. The Mayor of Boroondara as well as the District Governor and past District Governor will be in attendance-and you don’t want to miss the sausage sizzle afterwards.
At Monday’s meeting we were happy welcome visitors, Greg Ross OAM, past DG and President of Rotary Nth Balwyn (picture below) and Gretta Williams also from Nth Balwyn Rotary. Greg is encouraging his members to visit another Club to find out more about what different Clubs do, and I agree with this, especially those new to Rotary. Also with us was Michael Li. He is keen to become involved - he also helped set up for Thursday’s FAM, the extra pair of hands made the work go faster!
Our speaker, new member Benji Brundin, was outstanding! He has packed a lot into his life so far and told his story so well, with great pictures too, that we were engrossed. See later for Anne’s report.
