Last Monday the Club met at Cothan Dining as the Canterbury Centre is being repaired following a plumbing disaster.
Newly installed President Tony Nguyen led us in an informal night of short presentations by Director and members.
Thanks to the scribing of Anne Josefsberg, the following are notes of the matters discussed at the meeting:
- Club Service - Rob proposed a social event at least once a month with partners/friends. He encouraged us to bring a friend to a normal meeting to add new members.
- A FORaMEAL event is planned for Friday 14 July at Camberwell Grammar School.
- Bass Care - John suggested that by 7 August, when the DG visits the Club, that the Canterbury Centre may hopefully be available.
- Ant - Report from a Camberwell Market discussion that the Mayor of Boroondara, Cr Felicity Sinfield, would love to come to the Rotary Club of Canterbury either as a speaker or to attend.
- A Medical Mission to the Philippines is planned from 14/10/23 to 24/10/23. Doug informed us that there is a good mix of attendees. Cost will be between $1,800 and $2,000. With 20 applications, 6-8 will be prioritised. Some Orthoptic staff from LaTrobe University have agreed to attend, along with an audiologist from the Rotary Club of North Balwyn. It is the first mission to take place in three years, following the COVID lockdown.
- Financial Report - John gave good financial news for the Rotary Club of Canterbury. $36,000 has been provided from member's attendance at the Camberwell Market. Wear the Wattle badges accrued $10,000 and approximately $30,000 from the FORaMEAL events. One third of the members have paid their membership. A reasonable profit has been achieved for the year.
- The Environment - A project is planned to be undertaken with the Rotary Club of Woodend.
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - Accessibility is important.
- Community Service Portfolio - The activities need to involve as many members as possible, connect with the community and this may involve undertaking fewer but more significant projects.
- Strategy Taskforce - The Rotary Club of Canterbury is reviewing its project strategy which may result in some changes in direction, with the aim to sustain strategies and apply sound practices. Projects will be reviewed on a regular basis.
