Our speaker at Monday’s meeting was Paul Rake who provided an insight into how the Rotary Foundation grant process works.
Paul is a longtime Rotarian from the Chadstone East Malvern RC and the chair of the District 9800 foundation committee.
He impressed us with some numbers:
- The foundation has $1B in assets globally, and,
- $4B has been expended on projects since the foundation was established
There are three types of grants:
- Local grants for projects up to $10,000
- District international grants for up to $30,000 and
- Global grants for projects above $30,000
Paul used the Club’s Philippines eye and ear project to illustrate how the Club, in conjunction with other Districts and local Philippines clubs could work together as a consortium to access foundation grants.
To further illustrate the grant process Paul referred to a project in Cambodia where funds have been used to construct more than 1300 toilet/wash rooms – what an achievement!
Finally, Paul stressed the importance of donations being made to the foundation through various avenues to enable future projects to be undertaken.
