In January 2021 the Club sponsored Heather Maltby to attend the National Youth Science Forum and she joined us last Monday evening to speak about the experience.
Heather gave us a great insight into the forum and her enjoyment at attending.
The forum, usually runs in Canberra as a live-in event was re-jigged to be an online production this year which did take away a little from the hands-on aspect of the event. But this did provide an opportunity to link onto more online science communicators and she mentioned that Dr K was impressive.
Heather spoke about some of the subjects which caught her attention such as:
- whether we can trust algorithms which are the driver in most artificial intelligence practices
- the advancement is producing oxygen from running water
- the gigantic handron collider - 27 kl long
Heather said she is not a scientist yet but is very interested in learning more about various aspects of it and she thanked the Club for providing the opportunity to attend the NYSF.
