A note from the Co-Presidents
Once Bill Granger had unwound and connected the lights to power it really was like Christmas, as the fire was burning away in its digital fireplace! The evening really got going as members arrived, dressed in Christmas gear, and enjoyed fellowship. Helen's Christmas cardigan, which featured reindeer, was ideal for the bleak and wet day. Others commented with surprise that having the fire on the screen made the room seem warmer.
There were several highlights for our Christmas in July meeting.
Firstly was our Chair for the meeting, Nora Ley, in fine form and dressed as Santa.
Then, in a more serious vein, we inducted Michelle Critchley as a member of Canterbury. How lucky are we that besides her other qualifications, Michelle makes and decorates beautiful gingerbread houses, one of which she donated for the raffle?
Next, I was proud to present Cathie Macmillan with her third Paul Harris Fellow recognition, a PHF badge with two sapphires. Her comments about donating to the Rotary Foundation on order to enable Rotary to do more good in the world even when we can't be there to do it ourselves were so true.
The Christmasy roast, Christmas cake and chocolates were delicious and the games to follow were entertaining.
Finally, was the large amount of food (more than 40 cans of tuna amongst other foods) members brought to donate for use by Boroondara Community Outreach. The food and the sleeping bags and blanket filled the boot of my station wagon and took several trips to take into the BCO kitchen where I delivered it on Tuesday.
