A note from the Co-Presidents
Footy finals are upon us!
Our members and visitors came festooned with footy regalia, covering most of the teams in the AFL, for a night of football reminiscences and discussions on the current state of the game. It was a very high-spirited meeting, made more lively by our visitors, David Crow, Geoff Lamb, Colin Wisbey, Leigh Thompson and our speaker for the night, Graham (Smokey) Dawson as well as Michael Li and Steve Clarke’s partner, Robyn McNair. Thanks to Pam Thomas, our caterer, we were also spoilt with a delicious meal of chicken cacciatore and garlic bread. Yum!
As usual. Lots is happening in our club this week
- On Wednesday, Pam Norton (RC Kew), Jen Martin (Landscaper) and I planted the first plant in the Peace Poles and Pollinator Garden at Victoria Park, Kew.
- Preparations are on going for Sunday’s ceremony and sausage sizzle- thank you David Chivers for taking the BBQ prep on, sharing with RC Kew.
- On Thursday, FAM is at Scotch College-setting up from 9am (see Nora’s earlier information sheet).
- Jillian and I are participating in the Boroondara Rotary Network Meeting
- Also on Thursday, Boroondara Council staff (arbourists) are planting a tree in the PP&P Garden as part of Council’s partnership in this project.
- On Sunday at 11am, is the Peace Poles unveiling ceremony, with sausage sizzle to follow. Location Victoria Park, enter from Adeney Avenue, proceed down the main path then turn right onto the grass and walk towards the seat at ‘Possum Corner’. Many dignitaries, including local politicians, the Mayor of Boroondara and our District Governor are attending. If you haven’t already, RSVP to elizabethshepherd23@hotmail.com on Thursday if you are attending.
