John's thought for the day courtesy of Stephen Hawkins (note that he said this as a warning to all of us)

"AI will eventually reach a level where it will essentially be a “new form of life that will outperform humans”

On to Pres Tony who advised the members of the upcoming meeting on Tuesday 16th April hosted by RC Balwyn - those details in the bulletin.

Matters in the interest of Rotary

Tony L. advised that conference bookings were closing that night March 25th
he added the details of the working bee which was conducted at Camp Getaway in Axedale on Sunday March 24th. There's a few photos and some more details below
Jill reminded everyone that is was John McCaskills birthday that day and he got a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday
Elizabeth commented on the RYPEN weekend - again more below
Bob reminded us of the RIMERN visit and inner on Monday 15th April - he will need to know numbers by the April 8th meeting
Doug spoke about the FORaMEAL shipment to the Horn of Africa region - the details and photos will be attached to the next bulletin as we are waiting for final reports
David reminded of the lunches which are all well attended - details as always in the bulletin
Lili-Ann has put together a document with QR codes with promotional material behind each one. We'll be sharing one of these a week in the bulletin

last but not least Nora reminded us of the food packing at Caulfield Grammar - 1

Note that there is no meeting next week for the Easter break. The following week we will have a presentation by Val - She will be talking about renovating a chaumiere (cottage), maison, CHATEAU in France

Last week speaker - Sue Ellson - AI - an experts view

EVERYONE CAN DO THIS by Anne Josefesberg

Our speaker tonight, Sue Ellson, came to discuss an expert's view about artificial intelligence. However, this was not the main element of the presentation.

Sue was exquisite in the way she devised a customised strategy for the Rotary Club of Canterbury to improve its presence on social media. She emphasised that engagement was paramount in establishing and maintaining a successfully used social media website.

One of the more technological references made involved three criteria:
1. data set - for multiple representations over a period of time
2. the use of prompt engineers
3. the fact that there are more versions of AI, than ChatGPT, which are better and more versatile ( for example, accessing Copilot through bing.com

The main thrust and takeout points:-
1. the need to inspire people to look at social media
2. the use of specific and very basic strategies ( updating the website but not removing items, liking posts, using voice communication where possible for shortcuts)
We can ALL do this. It is just a matter of having a go and being an active participant in social media.

Working Bee Camp Getaway March 24th

Along with our sister club Woodend and RC Bendigo a number of members travelled to Axedale to attend a working bee, weeding, painting, wood chopping and stacking were among the tasks performed admirably by Ted, Rosemary, Val, Cathie, Doug, Jill, Michael (Kew), Joe and his wife Lesley, Lili-Ann and Tony.

A sterling effort and I am sure there were a number who still felt it a few days later!

RYPEN getaway March 24th

Around 30 Yr 10 and 11 students had fun, made new friends, were challenged to solve problems, set goals and determine their values at DOXA camp at Malmesbury. Our club sponsored Theo Cowley and Melissa Merlo. DG Ron Payne came to the BBQ lunch, spoke to the students and presented them with their certificates

A huge thank you to Rob and Karin for driving them up on Friday afternoon
