  • Rob advised that he is looking at arranging other social events - details to follow as they are arranged
  • Val updated that the previous weeks Scotch College packing event, attended by 30 schoolchildren, packed 13400 meals
  • She also advised that the next event is on Thursday 6th October at Caulfield Grammar and she is looking for volunteers - to date they have 130 schoolchildren registered to participate - a bumper day so the more help we can provide the less pressure on Doug and Val
  • Doug had a tour of his factory with the Ukranian Society where they viewed the goods ready to be shipped soon to Poland and on to the Ukraine. 12 pallets which includes 98000 meals, over 1200 sets of underwear and a pallet of medical supplies provided by Rotary clubs in New Zealand
  • Finally a reminder from David Zrna about the lunch group catch up
Last weeks speakers Cameron Dare and Mike Rickard-Bell Team Sports 4 All
A thought-provoking presentation by Cameron and Mike. Here's the report by Anne

SPORT TEAMS 4 ALL
I have always believed in sports teams and the power they have to bond groups of young people together. Tonight, my faith in this belief has been confirmed.

Our two speakers from "Teams 4 All", Mike Rickard-Bell and Cameron Dare, gave us an insight into the significant work undertaken. This is not just about young children playing in sports teams. This is about being a real support for families who struggle - single mothers, refugees, welfare dependent families. Mentoring and ensuring that they have the opportunity to play sport in a team, have the right uniform and equipment and more importantly, learn to cooperate effectively in a group of people ( a sporting community).

Listening to the stories of the participants, it is very clear that being part of a sport community is beneficial for mental health. The subscription payment and registration are only just the beginning. The ongoing mentoring and the relationship developed is at the very heart of the experience.

When we talk numbers, how many children have been helped, the story becomes more impressive. So far, 306 children have been supported. Both Mike and Cameron would like to expand the operation for thousands of children to be included.

There are 500,000 children living in socio-economically disadvantaged siuations. With involvement of The Rotary Club of Brighton, as well as the Victoria Police, much progress has been made in assisting these young folk.

Some of the followup questions dealt with practical issues - families which constantly relocate, and more especially, what the actual requirements of the volunteers are. What is expected is one day a month, meeting with the families.

As for the sports teams, parents can be mentors, backing up the constant support in more difficult circumstances.

Finally, this is a very impressive program, and Cathie and Steve will be assisting "Teams 4 All" in locating sports teams in Boroondara, which can undertake the program.
Next weeks meeting October 3rd - Bianca Friend Australian Wildlife Conservancy

“Bianca joined AWC (2018) in Melbourne where she regularly enjoys meeting with donors and presenting on AWC projects to the wider community. Prior to AWC she worked with an equestrian publication managing sponsorships and associated stakeholders. Bianca’s conservation interest began by volunteering with various conservation groups leading her to AWC. She is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Science (Zoology) at La Trobe University. In July 2022 Bianca volunteered with the AWC north-west ecology team on wildlife surveys in the Kimberley – a career highlight!”
RIMERN wine order
RIMERN Homemaker Wine orders

After its successful Van Rouge campaign, RIMERN is embarking on a new campaign - marketing quality wines towards funding a new delivery van to streamline operations.

The new campaign will reward RIMERN clients by providing photos of the donated goods in situ, in their new homes, and on RIMERN social media. This activity promotes RIMERN's services and demonstrates to clients, volunteers and donors (stakeholders), the quality of the goods available: a positive and inspiring image.

It’s Spring: time for a new life and a new beginning.
The new RIMERN wine promotion is called “Homemaker Voucher Vino”. Again, it will offer quality wines at a special cost. Funds raised will contribute to the Rewards scheme for the RIMERN clients who participate in the social media campaign. Funds will also contribute to the much-needed delivery van.

Rewards will consist of a $50 Coles Group & Myer Gift Card which can be redeemed by our clients in Myer, Target, Kmart, Coles, Liquorland, Vintage Cellars, First Choice Liquor Superstore or Officeworks. It allows the clients to add personalised touches to their new homes such as small items or goodies to entertain...

The wine selection is a new and exciting range produced by the well-known Yarra Valley winemaker Peter Fergusson with exciting premium options.
These are: -
·      South Australian 2021 Sauvignon Blanc
·      Clare Valley 2020 Riesling
·      Victorian 2021 Reserve Sangiovese Rosé
·      Yarra Valley 2018 Chardonnay
·      Yarra Valley 2019 Pinot Noir
·      Heathcote 2020 Shiraz

How do I order?
You can order a minimum of 6 bottles, but we raise $40 per dozen sold! Remember: for every purchase of a dozen wines from the above selection, $40.00 goes towards the purchase of the vouchers.
Peruse the offerings above and make your selection – there is a great selection to suit your palate.
