by Anne J Angus Horlock, our speaker tonight, has dreamt about travelling to Antarctica since he was fifteen years old. He was finally able to do this trip in 2015 and gave us a fascinating presentation on his journey including some wonderful photographs Getting there - Whilst one would assume he would get there directly via Australia the best route for this particular expedition took him via the Middle East to South America and then on to the subcontinent of Antarctica. The final leg and tour on board a Russian Research vessel. This tour only runs during the "shall we say" summer season where the temperatures hovered around zero. This vessel is tasked with taking acoustic soundings underwater. He travelled with a group of mainly American tourists, among a total of ninety-five passengers. The regulations state that no more than 100 people can access land at any one time. The bird life Angus photographed was extensive. He also displayed a wonderful photograph of a foggy view which was the convergence of the warm Atlantic Ocean with the freezing Antarctic environment. It was absolutely heavenly. His photographic skills reveal the diverse range of penguins and other animal life forms in Antarctica. All in all, a wonderful session at the Rotary Club meeting tonight.
