Bryan Wood has achieved the ultimate in his sporting career, becoming a four time, premiership player for two clubs, Richmond 1973, 1974, 1980 and Essendon in 1985. He was appointed captain of Richmond in 1981 and was inducted in the Richmond Hall of Fame in 2006.
Bryan played on the wing throughout his career. He started his senior career in great fashion by winning the Best First Year Player award, in 1972. He then developed into one of the best wingman in the VFL in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Bryan was a fine high mark and long penetrating kick. At 22 years of age, he became the youngest Richmond player to reach the 100-game milestone in 1976.
In 1981, he captained Richmond and was awarded Life Membership. Bryan also represented Victoria on two occasions. His moved to Essendon in 1983 and the move was successful as he added his fourth senior Premiership win to his list of honours in 1985. He later worked as an “around-the-ground” man for Radio 3AW, after retiring as a player. He was Kevin Sheedy’s runner at Essendon for several years. He now lives in Burwood, and works in the graphic printing industry.
