Recently I have attended several Rotary President sessions, at which the various club projects have been discussed. I have been surprised to hear that clubs obtain grants from the District 9800 Foundation, to cover some of these projects. We don't seem to have applied for many grants in the recent past. And I would like to change that. We therefore have decided to apply for a grant to help cover the cost of the orthoptic students to the Philippines medical mission. And I also plan to apply for a grant for the food packing event later in the year.
Despite hearing murmurings that grants are difficult to obtain, it seems that the foundation members are only too eager to hand out money to worthy recipients. And very happy to help with the applications. Paul Rake gave a very comprehensive explanation of the grants on Monday night, the difference between district grants and international grants, and how to make a project possible by involving numerous Clubs and therefore increasing significantly the total grant.
On Thursday, John Wormesley and I attended a Rotary Network Meeting held by the Boroondara Council, with the sole purpose of sharing information about the various Rotary projects in the cluster group. Paul’s speech was therefore very timely
There's quite a lot going to be happening over the next few months. Next Monday we head to Rimern to educate the new members about the organisation. Afterwards, we will have our dinner at the Darebin RSL. On the 25th of May we will be holding a special new members evening. You will receive information of that next week.
We will have a packing of the birthing units on the 15th of June. I will explain this activity in greater detail closer to the date. And don't forget Changeover on the 29th of June. The invitations will be going out shortly.
