Thanks to Nikki, Angelica, Olli and Melissa who presented on the recent medical mission and their take aways. For those who have been on the missions there are various takeaways, especially the first - ask me I can tell you a story or two (the Ed.)
Needless to say, the mission itself is a (pardon the pun) eye opener for any who attend and especially for the students who do not get a chance to observe their type of studies and work in such a different environment.
It is hard to describe in words what the girls presented so instead the slides will tell their story and at the end of this there is a link to a video on You Tube which they put together.
Enjoy this as we did -

Our students from left to right, Melissa, Angelica, Olli and Nikki

They explained to us how they had heard about the mission from previous students so jumped at the chance to apply and be selected

The paces we visited on the island of Negros. Flew into Manila then next day to Bacolod. Straight to Kabankalan which was the base of operations for a few days. From that major centre we visited Cauayan, Tapi, Illog and Sipalay performing triage on the eyes and ears fo the locals before they were sent to the experts for further checks and intervention through ear cleaning or operations

Next (and last for the actual mission) stop was our base at Hinoba-An, and a great little resort with big rooms and close to the beach. Some RnR is needed you know! Further visits to schools and community centres to do our initial work. The last day was taken up with viewing those who has been operated on and were getting their patches removed

What was great to see and hear was the passion that the girls had for the trip, their take aways from it and the things they saw. They all want to go back on more missions and we are sure they will.
Thanks for the presentation and your words of appreciation for RC Canterbury supporting this fantastic learning experience for you. See you in a future trip

Oh and the girls also created a video of the adventure. Note that there are some cataract operations in the video - not for the squeamish
