HYPNOTHERAPY by Anne Josefsberg
First off - What is hypnotherapy?
- A natural, altered state of consciousness
- A relaxed hyper suggestible state or dissociated state
Putting it plainly - it has been described as guided daydreaming
To understand what hypnosis is and what going into trance is, you really have to appreciate what a pleasurable experience it can be. For those, like me, who undertake self-help online sessions of self-hypnosis and trance, it is very easy to deal with it.
New York Timers described hypnosis as " the epitome of mind body medicine. It can enable the mind to tell the body how to react and modify the messages that the body sends to the mind"

Hypnosis is a natural altered state of consciousness. It happens ins a similar way to when you zone out or drift off. the goal of a successul hypnotherapy session is to enter a state which is between Theta and Delta state. Olivia noted that when she speaks in a hypnotherapy session, it is not her normal voice. It is slower and far more relaxed. She also uses music in the background to relax her clients.
THREE WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS AND ANXIETY: -
1. Breathing Technique- resetting the central nervous system. Deep breathing in, low exhale out of mouth.
2. Havening- a soothing technique developed in Mexico. Bilateral stimulation of both hemispheres of the brain. Hug, rub down both arms (right and left).
3. Brain Spotting Technique - focus on the spoon or pen ONLY. for a few seconds. Refocus on everything else around the room. Repeat the procedure three times. Occular Cardiac Response - slows the heart rate. Releases all the "feel good " hormones.
How effective is hypnotherapy? - these results published by the American Health Magazine
Psychoanalysis - 38% recovered after 600 sessions
Behaviour Therapy - 72% recovered after 22 sessions
Hypnotherapy - 93% recovered after just 6 sessions
We all emerged with a very positive and open view of clinical hypnotherapy and could envision how it could be used to improve our daily lives in many respects. It was a very useful meeting for all of us.
