What an inspiring speaker Julie was on Monday, taking us through her journey of fear, acceptance, and ultimately joy at the birth and life of her youngest son. We learnt a lot about her day to day life and how she manages relationships with strangers and even friends and acquaintances.
here's the report from Anne
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
Julie Fisher, our speaker tonight, is the mother of three boys, an author, an advocate for parents of down syndrome children and a public speaker. One of her boys, Darcy, was born with down syndrome. Even though Julie knew this would be the diagnosis, she cried when she heard the confirmed news. However, she moved onwards, and worked towards making his life the very best it could possibly be. Fortunately for her, family and friends rallied round her and supported her. However, there is a certain amount of negativity which has entered her life, especially when she leaves her house and goes out with Darcy in public.
At first, when other shoppers stared at Darcy, Julie reacted, and in a way which disturbed her. Being judgmental made her want to share the story. What she left us with were two particularly moving thoughts-

Julie is a shining example of a fierce parent who advocates for inclusion.
Thanks Julie and we look forward to following his journey
