A Note from the Pres, 23rd October 2024
Greetings members! After a fabulous trip to Vancouver, Alaska and Japan over the last month, it’s great to be home. Welcome back to the many other overseas travellers, especially the hard-working members of the recent Philippines Medical Mission.
At this week’s meeting we welcomed our District Governor, Michael Lapina, and his ADC, Alex Lapina (Alex helped fix the errant microphone). Michael’s talk about the meaning behind this year’s theme, “The Magic of Rotary”, was engrossing and illuminating.
The Board met briefly with DG Michael after the meeting and also discussed some upcoming changes at the Canterbury Centre. Watch out for an email about these. (JB sent that out yesterday - the Ed)
Thanks to the hardy souls who collect and bring items for the 10c recycling refund-there are too many to fit in my Pink Recycling bin but that’s OK. Keep them coming and out of landfill!
Onto another Rotary project, please support Rotary’s efforts to End Polio by donating to the Canterbury Strollers team who are walking many kms during the Walk With Us challenge throughout October. I have walked 168.7 km so far and Tony L reports a similar amount. Next week’s speaker is Natalie from Boroondara Community Outreach to fill us in on their work and ways in which we at RC Canterbury can help. This is sure to be inspiring so make sure you book in with Rob or John Braine by Thursday night.
Finally, as you go through the week consider Wayne Dong’s thought for the day of the Chinese Proverb, “An inch of time is an inch of gold”, and realize that time is priceless so don’t waste it!
