- Boroondara Sustainable Living Festival will be held on Saturday November 19th alongside the RC Glenferrie Farmers market. Our club R4Bees will have a stall there and there will be a waggle dance on the day
- A reminder that bookings for Ricon will increase next month so if you are planning to attend this global showcase of Melbourne and Victoria get in early
Matters in the interest of Rotary
- Doug will speak to the club on November 28th about the work that FORaMEAL are doing - in the meantime he gave us a short look at the recent events - more on that below
- Elizabeth gave feedback on her weekend away with RYPEN at Camp Getaway in Axedale. A good time was had by all and she observed some innovative thinking by the students

Open Day for the East Gippsland Timber Milling Project at Buchan
On our way to the Zone 8 Conference Rosemary and I went to an Open Day for East Gippsland Timber Milling Project. Our club used Sunday market and D9800 Bush Fire Appeal funds toward the purchase of the first two portable Lucas timber mills. This project initiated by the Bairnsdale Rotary Clubs including our sister club of Mitchell River is supported by many Rotary Clubs, Lions Australia the State and Commonwealth governments, Mindaroo Foundation and local businesses.
Following the massive bushfires that crossed East Gippsland there are still 100 farmers seeking assistance. The main aim is to recover timber from trees felled during and after the bushfire for fences and other uses. A second objective is to give farmers hope after being impacted by more than 2 years of drought followed by the bushfires that took many homes, sheds and farm fencing. This project is a great example of organisations working together to help families, build community capacity, and improve mental health following drought and fire.
Bernie Farquahar thanked all the supporters of the project including our club.
