TELL US YOUR STORY

DG. Peter Shepheard used to play basketball. This was his initial association with Rotary. In 2003, he joined the Rotary Club of Altona. He has been a President in that Rotary Club four times.. He has also been Assistant Governor for D9800 four times. He has served on various committees. He enjoys stage managing D9800 conferences.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MYSELF

Peter has never held a driver's license. He was about to sit for a driving test, but it never happened. Thus, Neil, his father, is his chauffeur, if public transport is not available. Initially, Peter was a data entry clerk with AMP Insurance for eight years, until he was made redundant. Then he worked at Blockbuster Videos, until he once again became redundant. After that, he worked at Crown Casino, in the retail department, and was once again made redundant. Luckily, Peter received a phone call from  Philip Archer, about a position to be filled at the Queen Victoria Market. He began in 2013, and has been there for twelve years.

UNITE FOR GOOD

"Unite for Good", this current Rotary Year theme, suggests that Rotary Clubs need to collaborate and work together. This means working with other external organizations.

In order to reach this goal, information will be collated at D9800 level for all Rotary Clubs to assist them to talk to each other and work together with the full knowledge that they know which area a project is taking place, what is being done and how Rotary Clubs can combine to reach the goals if they are the same or similar.

SOME PERSPECTIVES TO CONSIDER

Interact and Rotaract Clubs get excited, but are often lost after Year Twelve and a little beyond. Rotarians are available as mentors. The Rotary Foundation is a top five charity in the world and has been for the last sixteen years. Lastly, Rotarians must talk about their personal stories, taking them on the journey.

MULTI-DISTRICT CONFERENCE

Three districts will be gathering in Horsham between the 27 and 29 March 2026. Horsham is halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. There will be a Rotary Showcase in a rustic setting.

QUESTION TIME

Peter's dynamic presentation raised many functional and practical questions about the End Polio campaign, regionalisation, the art of belonging and the targets which Rotary Clubs set for the year 2025-2026.
