TO LIFE!
It was a night of acknowledgement and celebration. It was a night in which The Rotary Club of Canterbury recognised the contributions and achievements of individual members whose names could be loudly mentioned and applauded.
Our Rotary Club now has four newly minted Paul Harris Fellows, all of whom have been rightly rewarded for their contribution to our Rotary Club, and some for contributions in overseas and district projects. The list of names includes Alex Birnie, George Dolezal, Ant Balocca and Elizabeth Shepherd. Michelle Critchley was awarded The Ralph Hartnett Rotarian of the Year Award. Rob Simpson, after many years of service, has stepped down from his position on the Board.
What is most enjoyable about all these acknowledgements is the Rotary Thank You, done with much style and panache, and on a grand scale. As an observer of this process during the Changeover Dinner, it is extremely satisfying and the very best of the Rotary experience.
Furthermore, the White Night of Magic was one of a roving magician, Luke Hocking and a sustained performance with audience participation. Quite enjoyable and deeply entertaining, it reflected the night of celebration and happiness.
The theme of 2026-2027 is Create Lasting Impact. It reflects the core values which are deeply embedded in Rotary International. Any Changeover is an extremely uplifting event in the calendar of the Rotary year. It reminds you of all that is good and beneficial in the world today. It reminds you of the solid, consistent work undertaken by members of Rotary Clubs. It demonstrates the best of humanity.
