A note from the Co-Presidents
The weeks seem to be flying by and the team of 23 volunteers, including our other Co-President, Jillian, have safely arrived in the Philippines, and by now will be well into their sight and hearing screening mission. See photos later in this edition of the Buzz.
On Monday night 16 members and family enjoyed a most convivial meal and evening at the Harp Hotel in Kew. Both the Locals and Seniors menus were great value and included a drink. The meals were all delicious; the steak with garlic butter and chips was a very popular choice.
That afternoon I attended the opening of the BCO Art Show at Buoy Pizza in Walpole St, Kew. It is showcasing the works of 10 artists involved with BCO. Dr Monique Ryan MP officially opened the event and two of the BCO community spoke about the importance of this welcoming community in providing them with acceptance, support and the space to heal and grow. One read a poem she had written called Community Heals.
Besides highlighting the art and artists, the art show, which runs throughout October aims to bring attention to the issue of poor mental health (World Mental Health Day is 10 October) and provide information and contact details for support services. See below for this information and keep this information available in your phone or on your frig.
Thank you John and Ruth Pocock for your assiduous collection of recycling - the boot load Jonathan and I collect from you on Monday will be delivered to recycling this week and the money added to club finances - every little bit helps, but the big win is keeping these items out of landfill.
Elizabeth
