Trivia Night Monday 20 July
Canterbury RC is holding a triva nighton Monday 20 July at the Auburn Bowls Club.
 
Supper will be provided and drinks are availble from the bar.
 
Please come along with partners. friends and trivia buffs for a fun night.
 
There will be raffles and with a free raffle ticket provided to each attendee.

Changeover 2026-27
 
 
A fantastic changeover event was held on 29 June to welcome in President Jill Woinarski, thank the outgoing Board and welcome in the new Board. Special thanks went to outgoing President Elizabeth Shepherd for her efforts in carrying the Presidential chains for one and a half years.
 
Paul Harris awards were bestowed on George Dolezal, Alex Birnie, Elizabeth Shepherd and Anthony Balocca.
 
The Ralph Hartnett best Clubperson award was presented to Michelle Critchley.
 
It was a wonderful night  made even better by the performance of magician Luke Hocking.
 
Many thanks to all who assisted with the organisation of the night.
 
Birthing Kits
We packed birthing kits at our club recently. Consisting of sterile; a square of plastic, gauze, scalpel blade, string to tie the cord and a bar of soap, these kits really help to reduce infant mortality rates in developing nations.
 
 
Philippines Mission 2025 Team Photo
 
 
 
The above photo is of the members of the 2025 Canterbury RC Philippines Eye and Ear Mission, the 26th visit to the Philippines..
 
They visited the Philippines in October and were part of another very successful project to provide eye and ear screening and, were appropriate, referred those screened for cataract surgery, provision of glasses and assistance with hearing issues.
 
Congratulations to all the members of the team.
Peace Poles in Victoria Park Kew
 
 
Many members and partners from the Canterbury and Kew Rotary Clubs attended the official unveiling of the peace poles at Victoria Park in Kew on Sunday 21 September, which is world peace day.
 
Club Co-President Elizabeth Shepherd and Pam Norton, past President at Kew RC performed the official duties.
 
Boroondara Mayor Cr Sophie Tornie performed the unveiling along with Elizabeth and Pam.
 
Kooyong Federal Member Monique Ryan and the Victoria  Member for Kew and Canterbury RC member Jess Wilson along with District Governor Peter Shepheard and Councillor Shima Ibuki were part of the ceremony.
 
A background crew did a might job with the BBQ in what is a fabulous setting in Victoria Park.
 
Pam and Elizabeth thanked the many Club members, friends of the Clubs and Boroondara Council officers for their assistance in the heavy lifting to install the pavers and help with the landscaping. Jen Martin was also thanked for her landscape design for the site.

CREATING A RIPPLE ABOUT POLLINATORS AND GARDENS
 
Rotarians for Bees staged a fundraiser event at Box Hill GC in April which provided a pot-pourri of speakers, stories and projects.
 
One of  the highlights of the event was the presence of four school children  Jacob Niven, Emily Padman, Sophia Tehranitash and Ezekiel Raebel. They are from Parkmore Primary School in Forest Hill and were accompanied by parents Michelle and Jacob Niven and Box Hill Central Environment director John Erlington and his wife Ruth.
 
The students represent the BEAP  (Bee Education and Protection) Team which has been selected to represent Australia at the International Future Problem Solving event in the US in June. They spoke with Costa about the beginnings of their school pollinator project and with great joy about the upcoming trip to America
 
It was fantastic for all in the audience to see such enthusiasm from our junior citizens about pollinators and caring for the environment.
 
Many thanks to John McCaskill and all who contributed to the organisation of the very successful event and the audience who supported the event, the auctions, raffle and other fundraising activities.
Sustainability Festival 
 

Club members and friends participated in the free, family-friendly Boroondara Sustainability Festival which promoted small steps you can take to reduce your environmental footprint at home, work or school.

There were  experts to chat with about:

  • urban biodiversity
  • sustainable transport
  • waste reduction, recycling and the circular economy
  • water and energy saving
  • going all electric.

This event was held alongside the Boroondara Farmer's Market.

Rotary for Bees

The Club over the past months has been working with other Rotary Clubs and a group called Rotary for Bees (R4B's) has been established. This new group is working with the Environmental Sustainability Rotarian Action Group (ESRAG), an international rotary body, to do all they can to ensure the sustainability of bees.
