Stories
Last weeks meeting - including speaker notes
A fun filled night of footy mania which included a presentation by David Crow OAM on the MCG.  David provided the members with a lot of information on the history and operations of the "G"  Some they would know and many they would not.  Here are some of those stats

  • It has been on its current site for 170 years with previous locations
  • total capacity 100,024 with approximately 96,000 of those being seated
  • hosts 80 event and 1500 non event days annually with approxiate patronage around 3.5mn
  • current membership of 157,708 with a waiting list of 182,689 (the majority of those under 14). it is taking 32 years for membership from nomination to approval
  • it is a world leading sports facility in environmental management
    • generates 2000 tonnes of waste pa of which 80% is recycled
    • organise waste is turned into soil and used in Yarra Park
    • the water recycling plant generates 180 mn litres of Class A waterresulting in a 50% reduction in potable water use
    • energy consumption is down by 35% through the use of renewable energy and energy saving devices
      • impressive numbers
  • Contracts are very important to the operation of the MCG and include the following
    • with Trust/Govt to manage it until 2042
    • with Trust/Govt for access to Members stand until 2067
    • with AFL for a minimum 45 matches plus Grand Final until 2037
    • with Cricket Australia/Victori
    • any one off events
  • 26% of members are female and they make up 34% of the waiting list
  • 64% metro 21% country 12% interstate and 3% overseas
  • only 7% of members actually vote ion issues as most just want their MCG access
  • 8-10k nominations annually
  • How about the breakdown of club members
    • 18% Bombers
    • 13.5% Pies
    • 9.5% Blues
    • 8.5% Tigers
    • 8% Hawks
    • 8% Cats
  • So, the Members stand has a capacity of 22,000 and there are 157,000 members - can't squeeze those in so how do they make it work?
    • 31% don't attend during the year
    • 44% only attend between 1 and 4 events
    • only 25% attend more than 5 events
Some very interesting stats there thanks to David.

Next weeks speaker - John Wilson Physiotherapist
Next week we welcome John Wilson who is a Physiotherapist and will give us a presentation on

'The myths associated with back pain treatment and injury recovery'

John Wilson is an Australian Physiotherapy Association titled Sports Physiotherapist. He has over 35 years’ experience which includes: AFL teams; Olympic gold medal athletes; track and field; swim squads; hospital orthopaedics and people like us. An entertaining speaker, described as part physio, and part life-coach all rolled into one.
What did FORaMEAL do this last week?
Another busy time for the FORaMEAL team.

Last week the students at Scotch College packed 15100 meals

Wednesday 27th the team of Doug, Nora, Val and Tony oversaw a packing event held on the 12th floor of the Rialto by a team of 20 plus employees of Randstad (Tony's employer)

You can imagine the logistics of accessing the loading bay at the Rialto and using the sole goods lift which provided access for a very busy building with 55 floors! Anyway, with the help of the employees we managed to get it all done within the allocated time.

Here's a couple of photos from the event. It was a very well run and enjoyable event with a total of 12300 meals packed by 24 attending on 2 lines

The team will have a well earned break in October as most will be off to the Philippines for the Medical mission. Back in November and December for a very busy time.
In other news
Some of the residents of Boroondara will be aware of the Electrifying Boroondara Launch. Essentially an information providing launch on options on totally electrifying your home. Here is the link to the event which will be held on October 8.
