Stories
Last Week's Meeting - 2 December 2019

President Lili-Ann Kriegler presented our newest member Pat Poynton with her official certificate of membership at our Monday night meeting.

This was a bit belated as Pat was inducted several weeks ago but the certificate was not presented on the night. Another good photo opportunity for Lili-Ann and Pat.

Gilly Swinnerton reminded us of the ambulance mentor program. This is a leadership program for ambulance officers in Victoria where rotary members mentor the officers over a period of months. It is a rewarding program for all involved. Please contact Gilly if you would be interested in being part of the program.

Last Week's Speaker - Paula Vigorelli

We were very fortunate to be sought out by Boroondara Council, through their representative Paula Vigorelli, this week.

Paula, who only recently joined the Council team, came to ask us about what we thought needs to done to reinvigorate Maling Road, through our close association, both as residents and in the other ways we participate with this precinct. Paula showed us slides of how other local areas have been changed across Australia, which she shared during her presentation.

Council is seeking input, in what it called a  Place-making project, from many groups to seek the best outcome for the area, and we were the first she has approached on the subject, so we are lucky and honoured.

There were a number of good questions and comments from the floor, and Paula has agreed to return in May 2020 to update us on the results and potential plans that will have been made by then.

In the meantime, Paula will be happy to receive ideas though her office at Council, especially if you were unable to be present at Monday’s meeting.

Thank you Paula!

Next Week's Speaker - Aris Petratos

Aris is going to be the guest speaker at the Club on Monday 9 December. He will be speaking about the very latest global update on the Bee and Pollination industry following his recent attendance at the Apimondia Conference in Toronto. He will outline the important developments affecting bees and pollinators and the impact on our food chain. He will also talk about what is being done here and overseas to address the many issues and what we can do to assist.

Rotarians 4 Bees Event Video

The "What the Buzz About Bees" was first main Rotarians for Bees Event  - it was held at Greenacres Golf Club on 12 November 2019 with three guest speakers and 200 attendees to learn more about protecting our Bees and other Pollinators.

Thanks to Andrew McCaskill for taking and editing the video of the night which captures the highlights of the evening. There is a terrific sound track accompanying the video so please ensure that the sound is switched on on the video.

Please note that if due to  some technical issue (there are a few of these going around) the video is not visible when you receive the Bulletin, please  Click here to view it online.
