Last weeks speaker - Ron Payne - District Governor
Ron provided a good view of the year ahead. Thanks to Anne for the report.

RON PAYNE - MAKING THE LIVES OF OTHERS BETTER

Ron, District Governor for 9800, has been a member of the Rotary Club of Eaglehawke for eighteen years. He believes that communication is paramount for the success of Rotary Clubs.

WHY ARE WE IN ROTARY?

We want to make a difference. There are many different kinds of Rotary Clubs. However, predominantly, most people just simply want to do something good for others. This goal is encapsulated in the framework of the seven areas of focus.

CONTINUITY- ADVANCING THE GOOD IDEAS THAT CAME BEFORE YOU

Rotary International takes action to make lasting changes. These changes are based on the previous ideas which created projects and innovations. We need to value them and further them.

THE COLOURS OF THE WORLD AROUND US

Rotary International helps by building one newly created hope at a time. When one individual loses hope these challenges threaten the well-being of that person. There is always a time to ask for help. However, in many cases, some people consider that asking for help is shameful. In the same way, when Rotary International creates an initiative or project, this assists the world to heal from  destructive forces.

R GORDON R McNALLY

The current , 2023-2024, Rotary International President has cited three specific focii:-
1. Mental Health - due to the suicide of his brother, and the obvious need , after the lockdowns during COVID19, for people to seek out help.
2. End Polio - is an ongoing program
3. Empowering Girls - this deals with the notion of continuity of a program which mentors not only girls, but other groups of people.

In general, one applies previous programs, sees what is possible and analyses actions that can be followed up in the current year.

IMPACT, INFORM, INSPIRE

Rotary needs to tell the story of the amazing achievements in much more forthright, strident manner. Thus, public image- through Facebook, Instagram and Networker- is absolutely essential. This is the major priority of District 9800 in the year 2023-2024.

SOME SPECIFIC STRATEGIES TO DEAL WITH THE ROTARY STORY
1. Membership - all members of a Rotary Club must be engaged
2. Programs- can have a finite life. Once it is perceived that refinements need to be made, they should be.
3. Projects- members can be involved in projects in which they possess a passion for or are interested in them
4. Fundraising/Fellowship - Funds will be raised by a Rotary Club, but one must never forget that members need to be connected in a "fun" way, while making positive achievements.
