Last Week's Meeting - 26 May 2021

We had a very healthy turnout of members and friends of the Club to hear Dr Katie Allen MP speak to us about the Covid roll-out. Please see further details below.

The following matters of interest were raised:
  • Doug advised that the Club through its RAWCS affiliation had received from a very generous donor a substantial contribution to the FORaMEAL project. Many thanks.
  • Lili-Ann indicated that unfortunately the planned picnic in the park and Waggle Dance challenge has had to be postponed. Stay turned for the date for the event in the future.
  • Kyle thanked John Richards, David Zrna, and Alan Stevens for assistance with the ANZAC Day marshaling.
  • Edda mentioned the upcoming tree planning project  in May and asked members to advise her of their availability.
  • Tony indicated that there will be a FORaMEAL display at this weekend's multi-district conference.
  • Cathie provided further details on this year's change-over night which will be at the Amora Hotel in Richmond commencing at 7 for 7-15. The proposed theme is a touch of your favorite sport.
  • John McCaskill reminded members of the bring a friend night on Monday 3 May. The night will include short presentations about rotary, our major projects and the Club. Please refer to the flier below for more details.

Last Week's Speaker - Dr Katie Allen MP

We were joined last Monday evening by Dr Katie Allen MP, the member for Higgins.

Katie advised that she received supported from the Footscray RC some years ago when undertaking some research and as a result attended many rotary club meetings across the State.

Katie's presentation mainly focused on the Covid vaccination roll-out and she indicated that the early decision to close the international boarders was a significant factor in positioning Australia where it is today. There is vaccination hesitancy with 35% thinking it is too fast and 10% thinking it is too slow. This makes it a difficult path for governments to navigate.

Katie concluded her presentation by  responding to many questions on a variety of topic.

Many thanks Katie for taking the time to join our Club meeting.

Virtual Conference

For the first time, and in the year we celebrate our Centenary of service above self in Australia, we are bringing together all five Rotary Districts in Victoria for a unique and inspiring Multi District Conference, Virtual Victoria. Held over two days, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May from 11am to 1pm, the conference will be a celebration of Rotary’s achievements over the last 100 years, as well as a forum for new ideas and opportunities that will foster enthusiasm at club level to continue the amazing impact Rotary has within our communities.

District 9800’s breakout session will be an in-person event on the Saturday (1st May), showcasing our signature projects across all Avenues of Service. The event will be held at Hyatt Place, Essendon Fields and below  is a flyer providing the full details of what is going to be an amazing day!

All club members are encouraged to book for both the Multi District Conference and District 9800’s Breakout & Showcase events.

You are encouraged to bring sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to the D9800 Breakout & Showcase event to see what Rotary does, and the wonderful work you do to make a difference in the world. There will be a gourmet BBQ as well on this day in which they can join you.

Please note that it is important to book for both the online and in-person events as follows:

I hope you, your members, friends, family and networks will join us at what promises to be a fantastic event for our District.

Best regards
Philip
