A Message from the Co-presidents Week 21 July 2025

A note from the Co-Presidents

The thirty odd people who came to the Harp Hotel on Monday night were pleasantly surprised by the quality, variety and size of the meals from which they could choose. Mondays are Locals Night which gets you a meal and a drink (beer, wine, sparkling or soft) all for $20! Many thanks to Jill, Alan and Rob for organising the social night.

It was great to see George there, after his scare last week. The large group were so busy enjoying the fellowship that when the trivia started, only one hardy group braved going into the room full of young people, mostly young men - who were universally polite and kind to us olds. In round 1 we scored 4 but we improved dramatically in round 2, scoring 17. We earned the wooden spoon, but it was fun.

Adding to the Xmas in July festivities next Monday evening, Michelle Critchley will be inducted as a member of our club.

Please check rosters so you don’t miss your turn for Sunday Market, RIMERN, Setting/packing up at CNC, FAM or Wednesday lunch group.

Together, we do Unite for Good

Christmas in July

CHRISTMAS IN JULY AT THE ROTARY CLUB OF CANTERBURY

Christmas came early for the Rotary Club of Canterbury. On Monday night we celebrated with good company, good food and the achievements of Rotarians in our Rotary Club.

As mentioned about by Co-President Elizabeth, two Rotarians were acknowledged. Firstly, Michelle Critchley was inducted as a member of the Rotary Club of Canterbury. It feels as if she has been with us for a long time, and we were delighted that her time to be announced as a visitor is now over. Her contribution towards the raffle was a beautifully made shortbread house, which Doug Hawley took home. It looked absolutely delicious.

Cathie Macmillan was awarded a two sapphire Paul Harris Fellow for her outstanding and regular contributions to the Rotary Foundation. This is her third PHF. When you are present in this environment, you get to see the very best of Rotary. We all saw the entry of one member and the continued valued contribution of another.

We began the night with a word search supplied by Steve Clarke. The remaining letters not selected became the current theme of the Rotary Year 2025-2026 - UNITE FOR GOOD. Then, we had our Christmas meal and played parlour games. The evening was action-packed and lots of fun.

Rotary's Monthly Theme for July 2025
Most of us are familiar with the reference to the “Twelve Days of Christmas” but did you know about the “Twelve Months of Rotary”?

Rotary has identified a theme for each month. July is the first month of the Rotary year and is when the annual theme kicks in. It is also the month when new leadership takes over at Clubs, Districts and at Rotary International.  July’s theme is “Maternal and Child Health”.
