Last Week's Meeting - 4 May 2020
Another online meeting was held last Monday with President Elect Tony Laycock acting as the chairperson.

Tony spoke about planning for Rotary's centenary year next year and requested that advice of proposed projects for the 2020-21 year be forwarded to him by 18 May.

A number of other matters of interest were raised at the meeting:

  • Ted Waghorne indicated that some of the funds collected at the Sunday Markets would go towards refurbishing a caravan  which will be made available to fire impacted families.
  • Bob Lambert provided further details about the R100 project to build a playground in Yarra Park in conjunction with Boroondara Council and other rotary Clubs.

Last Week's Speaker - Paula Vigorelli

Our speaker last week was Paula Vigorelli from the City of Boroondara.

This was Paula's second visit to the Club as she spoke last year about the Maling Road Precinct re-development project and returned again to provide an update.

Data that was gathered during the course of information sessions, surveys and written submissions have been analysised and the Council intends to go back to the community for a second round of discussions commencing this week and seek further feedback.

Priorities identified have been to revitalise the shops, upgrade amenities (shade, seating etc) and parking.

Paula was our first online Zoom meeting presenter and did a great job coping with the technology and providing a very informative update on the Maling Road project.

Waggle Dance Launch

With get enthusiasm Lili-Ann advised that the Waggle dance had been launched online and registrations were open for individuals, families, groups etc to register and then upload their waggle dance videos to be part of World Bee Day events on 20 May. The music can be downloaded from itunes and other links will be distributed to members shortly.

Val also provided details of a Maling Road waggle dance challenge walk.

Next Week's Speaker - Wally Ballout

We had a false start last Monday as there was a mix-up and Wally Ballout was not available to join our online meeting.

However Wally is going to be with us next Monday  and he will be returning again the following week  to provide a second installment speaking broadly about the NBN and  in particular about NBN plans.

His role as a community ambassador is to meet with local community and residential groups to help educate them about NBN and what it means for them. The initiative is to ensure the community has all the necessary information during the rollout of the network.
