Stories
Last Week's Meeting  - 10 February 2020

Acting President Steve Wylie introduced  Di Gillies who spoke to us about the upcoming Women in Rotary International Women's Day breakfast on Thursday 5 March at the Palladium at Crown. Please see the flier below for further details and how to book.

Board member Greg Vero then outlined the new Project Management Framework initiative at the Club. The Framework is being introduced to better allow projects to be evaluated, to consider the possible risks associated with projects and to ensure the Club complies with our insurance requirements. An implementation team is leading the introduction of the Framework across the current Club projects.

Finally Rob Simpson mentioned the Moosh Boosh social lunch on Sunday 23 February at CoffeeHead in Railway Parade Camberwell. Please advise Rob asap if you are attending. Lets get together and make this a great lunch for members, partners, friends and especially our newest members and their partners.
Last Week's Speaker - Howard Hutchins

Howard Hutchins, above with Steve Wylie and Gilly Swinnerton, came to us referred through the District 9800 speaker bank, on the topic “Humour is Serious” - which seemed a very relevant topic to start the year. After separate recommendation from two members of the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Gilly was inundated with emails from Howard on many topics.

However. He rang Gilly late last week to say his much loved brother-in-law had died and he was going to make the talk a tribute to the late Barry Clayton, as he was a very funny person. Barry had three farewells in different locations and Howard spent 15 days beside him in an ICU ward at the end.

Howard stood without notes and unravelled his folder of papers and his bag of props to give us a genuine meander into his family and their Riverina origins as well as some of his vehicles, his travels, other adventures and his deep relationship with indigenous friends.

It’s a bit difficult to describe the presentation to those of you reading this who were not present, but we all shared in a cathartic event for Howard as he grieves, and  I think that fills the four-way test.

Next Week's Speaker - Betty Kitchener

Betty Kitchener is the Chair of District 9800 ROMAC and will speak to us about the services which ROMAC provide which  includes surgical treatment for children in Australia and New Zealand from developing countries from our Pacific Region in the form of life giving and/or dignity restoring surgery not accessible to them in their home country.
