Last Week's Cup Eve Social

Here is a group of aspiring punters decked out  in their fascinators, pork-pie hats, and even a collar and tie to get in the spirit for our Cup eve social.

We did not have the usual sweeps on our Zoom meeting but thanks to Bill Granger we had a very humorous call of the cup with many identifiable horses and jockeys - thanks Bill.

Some of the updates provided during the meeting included:

  • Edda sharing a thanks you from the Blue Cross for the Lets Stay Connected books
  • Val advised that the repacking of the FORaMEAL sachets is underway and any additional helpers should give her a call
  • Bob Lambert is about to start distributing the welcome packs to new residents in the Boroondara area
  • John McCaskill encouraged members and friends to register on Try Booking for the Your Garden - Our Future webinar   -  please see further details below
  • Ed Brown indicated that the DIK is now open for business and a container is ready to send to Timor

We enjoyed the night with lots of chat about first games of golf, going out to restuarants and visiting friend and relatives

Next Week's Speaker - Margaret Zita

Our speaker next week is Margaret Zita. After spending 30 years working for Qantas Airlines she has followed her passion to raise awareness and funds for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity which focuses on supporting families and finding a 100% cure for Childhood Cancer.

Margaret Zita, with a plethora of knowledge about the issues and impact Childhood Cancer has not only on the children themselves, but also for their families, embarked on the job she describes as her lifelong passion. Margaret was appointed My Room’s first full time executive in its 28 year history, where she volunteered for over 16 years. She  feels privileged and honoured to be in this role, now leading a strong all-volunteer led committee to the next level so that much needed research and trials continue toward finding the desired cure for children suffering from varying forms of cancer.

Margaret Zita dedicates many hours to speaking and fundraising to make the 100% cure a reality! She is a mother to 3 sons and her husband runs his runs his own business.

Margaret Zita was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the community through charitable initiatives.

Your Garden - Our Future Event Thursday 26 November at 7 pm

On Thursday 26 November at 7 pm the Rotarians for Bees are holding a major event.

Last year around the same time the R4B's held a fantastic event, with great speakers, a sumptuous meal, greats raffles and the list goes on.

This year some of these elements will be missing due to the restrictions around numbers being able to gather in a venue.

But the event, which will be held as a Zoom webinar, will still have a great vibe with the topic being Your Garden - Our Future.

The speakers are Costa Georgiadis, the host of Gardening Australia and Fiona Chambers, the CEO of the Wheen Bee Foundation and they will be discussing how to create a pollinator friendly habitat for your balcony, urban garden or rural environment.

Registration for the event can be made at this TryBooking link;  https://www.trybooking.com/BMIAB

You will need, prior to the event, to have installed/uploaded the Zoom app on you computer, table or mobile to view the webinar.

Admission to the webinar is free. However, please consider making a donation by clicking on the Admission with Donation ticket option. The suggested donation amount has been set at $15 and you may choose to make one donation of $15 or multiple donations of $15 by inserting 1, 2, 3 etc in the number of tickets box.

All donations received, which would be gratefully appreciated, will be used towards the Rotarians for Bees' contribution to the Victorian Schools Gardening Project.

There also will be a raffle drawn on the night of the event. Every individual who registers will have one ticket in the raffle. A donation of $15 will entitle the person who registers to have an additional ticket and each further donation of $15 will entitle the person to one extra raffle ticket for each $15 donation.

The raffle prizes include one nights accommodation at the Beechworth Honey Hive apartment, Beechworth Honey sampler hampers valued at $100 containing a selection of honey and other products, Seasol hamper packs valued at $100 and Beechworth Honey sampler packs of ten honeys valued at $30.

Looking forward to you joining the webinar event on 26 November.

 Cabrini Health Foundation Appeal

Due to COVID-19 in Melbourne, there is an urgent need at Cabrini Health to refurbish the rooms from four bed wards into single bed wards, each with an en-suite.

Cabrini Foundation would like to invite Rotary members to support the refurbishment of Cabrini Malvern Hospital. This urgent refurbishment would allow Cabrini Health to reconfigure and improve the existing patient rooms to ensure only single beds plus en-suites are available.

Current and future patients of Cabrini Health will greatly benefit from their safe and secure environment alongside the very best doctors and staff.

All donations are welcome and will be very much appreciated.  For any donations over $25,000, Cabrini would like to offer naming rights in the room and their support will be acknowledged on our honour board in the
Malvern Hospital foyer.
