It is with great delight that we welcome eight new members to the Canterbury Rotary Club.

Late last year the Yarra Bend RC held its last meeting and our Club is very fortunate that eight of the former Yarra Bend RC members have chosen Canterbury RC as their new home.

Our new members are :

Anne Brown
Ed Brown
Bob Lambert
William Liew
Ken Maher
John Pocock
Dave Shave
Edda Williams

The Club will have an induction service for the new members during February.

Welcome to the Canterbury RC and we look forward to many years of you all being part of the Club and enjoying the fun, friendship and participation in our projects and activities.

Bushfire Relief Outing to Buchan

Bill Granger advised recently  that our first opportunity to get together with and show our moral support for the fire affected people of East Gippsland may have arrived.

On Saturday, 15 February a family fun day will be held at the burnt out Buchan racecourse.  Buchan is a lovely little town of a couple of hundred people, where one man died fighting the fires. It is 355 kms from Melbourne.Several homes were lost. Overnight accommodation is available.

Ted and Bill will follow up with more detail next week. How great would it be if we could pay the people of East Gippsland the complement of having six or seven car loads of us visit them for the day, and stay for one or two nights. Please pencil it in your diary if you are able.

Speaker on 3 February - Club Governance - John Braine

As part of the series of presentations by Club Directors on the various service activities of the Club, John Braine, the Executive Secretary of the Club, will at our Club meeting on 3 February speak about governance, finances and related compliance requirements of the Club.

This topic may on the surface not be one that would automatically attract a large audience, however that is not to diminish its importance, so ever effort will be made to inject some humor  and fun into the presentation. So please come prepared with your big picture governance questions and your little ones about debits and credits.
