Note from the Pres

Our Canterbury Rotary Community came together to celebrate the last meeting of the year and a year of service through our myriad projects, both local and international. It was a wonderful night of fun, food and fellowship at Tesoro Gastronomie. It was lovely to see many partners joining in. A wonderful sight was Graeme Hindhaugh, back and in great form. His carried off wearing his Santa hat with aplomb.

Jess Wilson MP was a welcome attendee, many members not having seen her (except on the TV news) since the birth of her baby boy, Patrick, in September.

Have a look at Annes report below

No Matters in the Interest of Rotary at this last meeting but plenty of fun and laughter and photos to share

Thanks to Anne for the report on the dinner

I'm seriously enjoying the Christmas season and all the parties and get-togethers at the end of the year. The very last of my parties just happens to be The Rotary Club of Canterbury. We tasted and tested Tesoro Gastronomia to see what it was like. Given the extreme heat of the day, it was nice to be in a pleasantly cool zone, and to have the opportunity to eat Italian food.
As you enter the establishment, you see Venetian glass vases, pillows and tea towels, all Italian, which are displayed in shelves on the right-hand side as you enter.

The food came in small plates- meats, potatoes, salads and finally cakes. As usual, the company was wonderful. It is nice to see the other half of the members in such a convivial setting. Jess Wilson, MP for Kew, a member of The Rotary Club of Canterbury, attended, on the way to another event at a Catholic School in the zone.
Our thanks go to Karin and Rob Simpson, who make it look so easy to organise social events. The decorations were personalised by Karin and Rob, which made the area we were in look very festive indeed. Best wishes to all our members, friends and family over Christmas and the New Year!

NB This is the last bulletin for the year. Expect the next one to be after our new year get together on Sunday afternoon in the park on January 19th

On behalf of the Pres and the Board we wish all our members and friends a wonderful Festive Season break. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. May 2025 be all that you want it to be.

Spotted - the weekly walking group
Thanks to Rob for some snaps of the weekly walking group. They even threw on breakfast for Rob to celebrate his birthday

The cyclists were out and about
Thanks to Max for the report of the cycling group. Its been a while so hopefully we can hear more about their trips

We caught the train to the Belgrave Station and rode down the bike path beside the railway to Upper Ferntree Gully. From there, we chose the path beside Ferny Creek to the Tosaria Restaurant in Rowville for morning coffee. Then, we rode across Stud Road to look at the recently completed work on the Wetlands of Stamford Park. The photo shows the new viewing area overlooking the Wetland toward the award-winning Stockland Waterlea Residential Development. Click the following link for a YouTube video about the Waterlea Estate, which also shows the Wetlands.

We then finished our ride at the Mitcham Hotel for lunch, by riding along the bike paths beside Stud Road, the Burwood Highway, and the linear parks of Bellbird Dell and Somers Creek.
