Notes from the President

I hope you all had a very enjoyable king’s birthday weekend, with probably the last of the Autumn weather before the cold and wet set in.

We’re now at the end of the Rotary year with Changeover occurring on 29 June. It will be a magical event so please book. it would be nice to see many partners as well.

There is a lot of work involved at the end of the year such as end of year reports by the board members, a final board meeting with the current board members involved and then a preliminary board meeting with new members – although there are very few changes.

We also are looking at completing a strategic plan for the next three years and this will involve plans for projects as well as social functions. Obviously we are limited by finances and that mainly depends upon the amount that we received from the Camberwell Market. We have our big projects that take up a lot of time and I’m trying to find a few smaller projects that will involve members without too much physical activity and also too much financial involvement. So if any members have a particular interest in any particular project, I’d be grateful if you could let me know.

Next Monday, we will be having our birthing kits packing with this being another opportunity for friends to sit and chat. Unfortunately, you will not be able to drink wine and pack at the same time, but I’m sure this will not destroy the camaraderie. You need to remember that each pack may save a life.

On 22 June, we are going to have a very interesting speaker, informing us about the need to have good hearing. Unfortunately, as we age hearing deficiencies can occur and it is vital to have these addressed. I will say no more.

But my final message for this bulletin is for you to book for the Changeover. It will be an exciting evening.

Cheers,

Jill

Last Week's Speakers - Anne Jofesberg, Fiona Anderson and Alex Birnie - Rotary and Community Service Radio Show
THE ROTARY AND COMMUNIITY SERVICE RADIO SHOW

Last Monday night, Alex, Fiona and Anne presented their story and contribution to The Rotary and Community Service Radio Show. Ian Salek generously provided details about the history and the founders of the media arm of Rotary.

Four members of The Rotary Club of Canterbury- Alex Birnie, Fiona Anderson, Lili-Ann Kriegler and Anne Josefsberg- were all present at the meeting. We revealed how the program is put together, and the ways in which Rotary projects are developed and personalities are trained. It was with the greatest pleasure, that Jonathan Shepherd, the leader of the team, came to listen to our presentation, and support us. Jonathan took over the role after David Proud retired from this position.

Rotary, and involvement with Rotary projects, gives you wings and the confidence to learn new skills at all times. What Alex, Fiona, Lili-Ann and Anne love to do, is to expand our skills and have a great time doing it .Thanks go to Ian Salek for providing us with the audio of previous interviews and the historical development of The Rotary  and Community Service Radio Show. Members of The Rotary Club of Canterbury discovered what we have been doing for some time. Very soon, in August of 2026, it will be twenty-one years of this radio program.
