Chances Golf Day Report

The Chances Golf Day held on Monday 28/10/19 was a great success, with perfect weather. Eighty eight golfers hit off in a shotgun start at 12.30 after having a light lunch.

The course was in beautiful condition and from all reports the golf was enjoyable, though Box Hill course is famous for the many creek crossings and the lovely lake, which all seem to attract golf balls.

At the tees there were signs advertising the services of our 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 11 Bronze sponsor that made a huge contribution to the days financial success, as did the ladies from Nurse Next Door (Silver Sponsor) who gave out cold drinks in exchange for a donation to Chances, raising $270.00.

Afterwards we sat down to a BBQ buffet dinner and enjoyed some companionship and fun with more fundraising via a raffle.

The day was organised by Boroondara Cares Foundation with a committee of Rotarians and the net result is a profit of approximately $8,000. Boroondara Cares Foundation has increased the base scholarship to $1,100 this year and set aside over $134,000 to give out to the next group of recipients.

There will be over a 100 scholarships awarded to students assessed as being worthy of the merit based award.

Restoring Hope Golf Day

Restoring Hope is a Melbourne based charity that helps young people who have been sexually abused.  They are holding a fund raising golf day at the RACV Golf Club in Healsville on the 10 November.

The mission at Restoring Hope is to distribute Crisis Care Packs and Comfort Care Packs to young people who have been abused.  Typically a child would receive these items at a police station or trauma hospital.  The Packs provide new clothes (necessary for when the police remove clothing for forensic testing), toiletries, a blanket, a colouring book, pencils and a “Hope” teddy bear. The aim is to use this simple act to bring some comfort and a sense of normality to a life that has been turned upside down, and restore a sense of dignity and hope at a time when it is needed most. The details about the golf day and how to book are at the Restoring Hope  website at:  http://restoringhope.org.au/
