Message from the President Week 23 June 2025

A Note from the Prez

Our last regular meeting of the rotary year was one of fellowship, celebration and laughter.

The members enjoyed a meal of Pizza, party pies, pasties and salad, with dessert of chocolate coated ice-creams.

Thank you, Rob, Karin, Myh Hahn and Pat for organising this special event.

It was a wonderful opportunity for members, partners, and friends to connect together and get to know others better. We welcomed Pat, Karin, Leonie, Robyn, Liz, Benji, Jess & Hunter, Michelle, Alex, Jules, Grant & Corinne and Dinesh.

The celebration happened as Benji, Jules and Alex were one by one inducted as members of the Rotary Club of Canterbury.  This makes a total of seven new members this year, with more joining in the new Rotary Year.

Well done, everyone who has bought, welcomed or mentored potential members to our club.  You can already feel the vibrancy and energy they bring.

The laughter came from Steve Clarke telling us what made him grin!  The stories, with accompanying quirky photos starting with his great Grandfather, through his childhood, apprenticeship and Primary Teaching, right up to the present, had us all laughing with him.

The festivities continue next Monday at our annual Changeover dinner at Box Hill Golf Club.

REMEMBER to come in BLACK and WHITE with a little bling and be prepared to have a great time.

Elizabeth Shepherd.

SPARKEY CLARKEY - OUR MEMBER BEHIND THE BADGE

We really had a fabulous night tonight at the Rotary Club of Canterbury meeting. It was a feast of everything good about Rotary. It was a celebration of new members - Benji, Jules and Alex- and a time to absorb details about the member behind the badge, Steve Clarke, who in the Rotary Year 2024-2025, has been a dynamic membership director for our Rotary Club.

With his bubbly and friendly outlook in life, Steve " Sparkey Clarkey", has significantly increased the membership of The Rotary Club of Canterbury. His profile begins in Leongatha, one of three sons. He wanted to be an electrician and regaled us with anecdotes about special locations in his lifetime, the Sale Adult Education Centre, where he took exams and undertook classes. He then mentioned his return to Australia  in 1989, from UK, where to trained to be a teacher at a time when schools were being closed down or amalgamated.

From personal experience, Steve works so diligently when he undertakes a repair job. This can be said about the way he wines and dines prospective new members for the Rotary Club of Canterbury, and closes the deal. Our Rotary Club is very fortunate to have him in our orbit.
