Val Cunniffe introduced our speaker Selba Luka with great enthusiasm because of the very many activities, and achievements that Selba has and is part of including very recently being awarded Dandenong's Citizen of the Year. Selba is the head of Afr Aus Care, a not for profit organisation. She indicated that she arrived in Australia in 1998 and along the way has worked at many occupations, has studied, established and grown Afr Aus Care and is a member and in some cases Chair of many community organisations and government and local government bodies - a very busy lady. Afr Aus Care, using the Ubunti Framework of Support, aims to help build people up to where they belong through health and well-being support. The organisation is helping to create today's young leaders - like those involved with the Black Rhino Basketball organisation which was formed to assist youth who had had issues in the community. Selba showed a couple of fantastic videos which highlighted the work of Afr Aus Care through its five locations and indicated that it now has an international presence. Selba demonstrated what can be achieved by community organisations and of course great people. It was a pleasure to have Selba speak to us and be supported by Vivian Tong from the organisation.
